From Zumaya Enigma – Death on the Run

Death on the Run

by Joan Blacher

Death on the Run

The past is present

An Ardis Jensen Mystery

A young woman is killed by a hit-and-run driver, and when Ardis learns she knew the victim neither her heavy workload nor her husband’s disapproval keeps her from agreeing to help with the investigation.

The more she and Detective Larry Hopkins learn, however, the less they know; and when the man Ardis considers the prime suspect also ends up dead, the mystery just gets murkier.

Who was the mystery man Lori had known who suddenly appeared in her life again? The answer is not only surprising but deadly.

Purchase the trade paperback from Amazon and Barnes and Noble as well as in ebook for Kindle and NOOK.

ISBN: 9781612711331

The 2012 Zumaya Trivia Scavenger Hunt!

Welcome to the 2012 Zumaya Trivia Scavenger Hunt!

We had so much fun last year with a smaller version in conjunction with a chat we decided to expand it, gather some terrific prizes and give lots of people a chance to win them by running the event through the month of September.

A number of our authors have donated those prizes, and they are all related somehow to their books. How they’re related, we aren’t going to tell, beyond maybe a hint or two. We don’t want to give away all our secrets.

The way the contest works is that a group of Zumaya authors are hosting a collection of links on their blogs. There will be a question about themselves or their books, and a link to where you can find the answer. Visit all the blogs, collect the answers to all the questions, then go here, and complete the contest form.

Now, a contest wouldn’t be any fun if it was too easy, so we’ve added some book and author-related trivia questions just to challenge you. Take your time—the Zumaya Trivia Scavenger Hunt will run through the entire month of September. You can see photos of some of the great prizes we’re giving away over at  Pinterest in the “What Do These Have In Common” album or at the Zumaya page at Facebook. Who knows— there might even be a few books and ebooks tossed into the mix before we’re done. We’ll definitely be giving away at least one ereader, but we’re waiting for all the new models to come out before we pick those.

There will also be daily and weekly trivia contests, so keep an eye on Twitter and the Zumaya page on Facebook, or re-visit our company blog Zumaya Tales.  If you haven’t liked the Zumaya page on Facebook, now would be a good time. We’ll also have a chat at Coffee Time Romance and more on 4 September to launch, and a couple of hangouts on Google+ over the next four weeks.

There is, of course, no purchase required, and your private information will remain between you and Zumaya. Unless we’re authorized to do otherwise, it will all be deleted when the contest ends. While we’d love it if you sampled our wares, our goal with this contest is to get to know as many people as we can, and to let them get to know us. So, welcome and have fun!

Here’s a peek at some of the prizes for the Zumaya Publications Scavenger Hunt:

If you’ve read my novels, you’ll know which one I threw into the pot. Hee hee!

Now to get you started…

At the bottom of this post is a list of Zumaya authors. On each of their websites you’ll find the answer to a question. Collect the answers to those questions, then go to the ZP Survey Monkey page and fill in the answers.

Name the Bear, Win Stuff!

(From Elizabeth Burton – posted by GO)

Twenty-odd years ago, my mom bought me a little white wizard bear at an after-Christmas sale. When I joined Zumaya Publications, he/she became our unofficial mascot.

Now, we’re going to make the bear our OFFICIAL mascot, but he/she needs a name. So, for the next month, until ArmadilloCon 33 in August here in Austin, send us your suggestions for what to name the bear. If your name is chosen, we’ll send you a new Kindle loaded with Zumaya ebooks and some other cool swag or a terrific computer attache full of signed Zumaya paperbacks—your choice. We’ll give prizes to the nine runners-up, too.

Send your suggestion to zumayaebooks@gmail.com; please include your address with your entry. Entries will be judged by a panel of Zumaya authors and the winner announced on August 28th. You may enter as often as you like, but you must be 13 years old or more to enter. Sorry–legal stuff. And Zumaya authors and their immediate families will have to forego the fun, too. I’ll make it up to y’all, I swear.

Let the contest begin!

Name the Bear Contest!

Little fellow needs a name. Won't you help?

Zumaya Publications Birthday Bash Virtual Tour

Happy Birthday Zumaya Publications

Join Elizabeth Burton and the authors of Zumaya Publications as they tour the blogosphere to celebrate their  fifth year anniversary with a month long birthday bash!  Zumaya Publications is a small press publishing house based in Austin, Texas, and has been the home of many wonderful and talented authors under the direction of the multi-talented editor, Elizabeth Burton.  Together they are celebrating five years of irresponsible reading with giveaways, chats and more at Pump Up Your Book!

About Zumaya Publications

Zumaya PublicationsWE SUPPORT IRRESPONSIBLE READING

Zumaya Publications was founded in British Columbia in 1999 by author Diana Kemp-Jones and artist/author Martine Jardin. Their goal was to develop a publishing company that combined the best of the old, traditional methods with the best of the new. For them, this meant developing an internet-based house that utilized print-on-demand technology.

In 2006, Zumaya moved to Austin TX as Zumaya Publications LLC, under the direction of Executive Editor Elizabeth Burton. Over the next three years, Zumaya branched into seven imprints—Arcane, Boundless, Embraces, Enigma, Otherworlds, Thresholds and Yesterdays. In 2009, Marianne and Joyanne Moul replaced Jardin as partners in the company. Plans to implement a graphic novel imprint, Zumaya Fabled Ink, are currently underway as well as a line of artist-designed illustrated classics.

To date, Zumaya has published more than 200 titles in all areas of fiction as well as some superb nonfiction, many of which have won awards. Gideon by Chester Aaron was selected the silver medal winner in the YA-Cultural/Historical category of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, The Everdark Gate by Elizabeth Burton received the Dream Realm Award in Fantasy for speculative fiction in ebook format, and Busting Loose: Cancer Survivors Tell You What Your Doctor Won’t by Cheryl Swanson received the silver medal in the Living Now Book Awards.

Zumaya Publications is committed to two things: allowing undiscovered talent the opportunity to be heard and moving publishing into the 21st century by actively using and promoting new technologies and business models that have significantly less environmental impact than the traditional one. To accomplish the latter means developing new strategies for marketing and distribution, which are already being studied and implemented. The cost-effectiveness of inventory-free production, eliminating both the need for stocking large numbers of books and the subsequent need to dispose of unsold copies, allows the company to take risks with both new authors and content more often than is feasible for those using traditional methods.

Publishing 20-25 titles annually, Zumaya is one of a new breed of book publisher utilizing up-to-date technology in new ways.

Visit Zumaya Publications at www.zumayapublications.com.

About Elizabeth Burton

Elizabeth Burton has had four novels and three erotic romance ebook novellas published in the decade since she decided it was past time to pursue her long-postponed career as a
storyteller. After working as a journalist and newspaper editor, she took advantage of a job hiatus to work on fiction, publishing the first novel, Dreams of Darkness, as an ebook in 2000.
She also became a much-in-demand freelance book editor and reviewer, publishing the online review zine The Blue Iris Journal from 1999 to 2003. She was a finalist in the 1999 Writers of
the Future, and is a member of the Fandom Association of Central Texas (FACT) where she is on the board of directors and serves as board secretary, and is co-chair for ArmadilloCon 32,
Austin’s oldest literary SF/F convention.

In 2003, she became a partner in Zumaya Publications as executive editor, and in 2009 purchased the company in partnership with her niece while trying–again–to find time to write.
Her most recent novel, The Everdark Gate, was the winner of the 2008 Dream Realm Award for Fantasy.
